Spencer Drate LIVE interview 06.28.10 discussing "FIVE HUNDRED 45's" by Anthony Bozza.com
June 30, 2010 08:22 PM PDT
Spencer Drate and Judith Salavetz have been working together for 28 years and counting! Their new book, "FIVE HUNDRED 45's" (published by Harper-Collins, NYC.), is a masterpiece. It's a 480 page, "Bible" for the 45 record enthusiast. If your not a 45 record enthusiast, this book will seduce you and you will become one! Since it's birth in 1949, the 45 has provided a creative outlet for graphic designers and artists, who have used the seven-inch record sleeve as a canvas, a place to experiment visually and to express the aesthetics and sentiments of the times. In FIVE HUNDRED 45's A Graphic History of the Seven-Inch Record (Collins Design; Trade Paperback Original; June 1, 2010; 9780061782411). Spencer Drate and Judith Salavetz have created an amazing anthology of more than 500 examples of great record sleeve design. Organized thematically, with graphically compelling pairings on every spread, this book covers every genre of music and great musician from 1950-2000, from the swing of Frank Sinatra to the early rock of Elvis Presley, from Bruce Springsteen to Blondie, from the Pretenders to Nirvana. Music fans, graphic designers, and pop culture enthusiasts will be inspired and impressed by this visually rich, diverse collection and consider it a must for their libraries. Spencer Drate and Judith Salavetz are creative directors, graphic designers, and writers who have designed album art for U2, Lou Reed, the Ramones, Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, the Beach Boys, Bon Jovi, Joan Jett, and Dave Valentin, to name a few. Both are the recipients of many album-packaging awards and have judged album designs for numerous organizations in the music packaging industry. Drate is a member of the Grammy Award Committee for record design. This is a great interview and none like I have ever done before. There are quite a few surprises and several interesting questions and answers. All I can say is WOW, listen to the Podcast, then go buy the book! It's available at Barnes & Nobles, Boarders, Amazon to name a few. This was a privilege and an honor to interview such an amazing and talented man. Judith is equally amazing and talented as well. Spencer and I agreed to play Billy Squire's "Lonely Is The Night," for the tag song at the end of the podcast. I hope you enjoy! ~DJ_Boz~ Rock Spirit Radio Session #3. Dedicates & Celebrates the LIFE of Rafaela Flippi 06.20.10 by DaveDavies.com & AnthonyBozza.comJune 21, 2010 09:58 PM PDT
Dave Davies, Rosina Mostardini, and I along with a chat room of friends and healers, pray for the loss of dear Rafaela Flippi. Rafaela was a beautiful person, a dear friend to many and a very dear friend to Dave Davies. Dave remembers her in the front row when he was touring and she always had a big smile on her face. So, we dedicate this show to Rafaela and celebrate her life and all the people she had touched. Dave hand picked some very moving and appropriate songs during the session as well as some of Rafaela's favorites at the end of the session. I have "Trust Your Heart," from "Unfinished Business (Disk 1) and "Strangers" from the "Rock Bottom LIVE" LP. Thank you and we hope you get something out of this send off to dear Rafaela. Olga Ruocco, (creator) and Jayne Morgan manage a facebook group in dedication to Rafaela. The group is dedicated to the memory of Kinks & Dave Davies fan Rafaela, who passed over suddenly on 7th June 2010. Here is the link if you would like to post a dedication: ============================= DJ_Boz Rock Spirit Radio's "Spiritual Healing" session #2. I continue to be blessed by interviewing some of the greatest New Jersey artists and bands. Bob Polding is another. He has a big heart and is a very talented and giving individual. Bob has a lot of cool things going on, like opening for his friend Pat Green at The Stone Pony, in historic Asbury Park, NJ on March 3rd, 2010 and a follow up gig at The Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas, NV March 23rd, 2010. I hope to be at both of these gigs so stay tuned on some double secret action that may be happening at least at The Stone Pony. We talk about Bob's roots, his move to Las Vegas and now back to NJ. Bob first and foremost is a true loving, family man, he will mention what his little girls do waiting for him after his gigs which is so touching and simply cool. Bob also wrote the title track for a movie that takes place in Asbury Park, circa 1973/74ish with a 2011 slated release date. There are a lot of "A" listers in this flick so be ready for this one. He also helps out during the holidays with several charities and his full band is booked to perform for our soldiers in Iraq, May, 2010. Bob is very patriotic, which we all should learn from about our great country, the U.S.A. Bob's music has been in rotation in the Armed Forces Radio Network, so the troops will give him and the band a spectacular reception. Tons of other things we touch on and again this is a podcast not to miss. December 29, 2009 04:36 AM PST
Wow, a great interview with the "saucy" Terri Nunn. We talked about the her starting in the entertainment business, how she declined a 7 year acting roll on "Dallas," as well as others with "no regrets." The we talked about the insane days of the US Festival in '83 you get to hear Terri's reaction to all of it. We fast forward through the years answer a lot of questions by fans in the chat room and then discuss her new CD/DVD, "All The Way In." All kinds of cool and interesting topics. This was another really fun interview as well as informative. Terri Nunn and Berlin are playing at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA for New Year's Eve 2009, to ring in the new decade. This is going to be a show that you will not want to miss, so if your remotely close, get your tickets now unless its already sold out. More interviews to come with Terri, so stay tuned. A very nice interview with Martha Davis while we are both a bit under the weather! Martha and I talk about the beginning stages of The Motels, the lineup changes, relocating from Berkley, CA to Los Angeles and of course, the dreaded label issues. Martha has been blessed with her voice with no professional vocal coaching. Her voice is simply very pleasing to the ear. The Motels have been labeled "new wave" in some publications but they were/are nothing like that in my opinion. The band always had great lyrics, arrangements and more of a pop-rock band with a horn section. Martha had a lot to do with that. Martha is more of a "melodic" song writer and it shows in her music. Martha appears to have a lot of unfinished projects but with the help of her new manager, (Gaye Ann Bruno) I feel strongly that 2010 will bring a lot of those projects finally finished including a children & adult CD that is not "corny" like most children's music. Martha focuses on teaching the children while enjoying the melody of her music. A new studio "The Motels" album is in the works and I bet it will be a masterpiece. So, that's all I am going to give you on Martha, your going to have to listen for the rest. Martha's manager requested that I tag on a few special tracks at the end of the interview, "Nothing" and a re-recorded version of "Only The Lonely" which are fantastic. To drop by Martha's facebook: I hope you enjoy! ~DJ_Boz~ Robbin Thomspon LIVE interview Part III 03.17.10 by AnthonyBozza.comApril 18, 2010 11:19 PM PDT
Another great interview with Virginia's finest, Robbin Thompson. We talk about the years of touring "Two B's Please" and what Robbin did between '80 and '85 and when his newest album came about "It's About Time," in 1985. A lot happened during those years and you have to listen to find out. Then we move on to general subjects about touring and Virginia Beach, VA. We also talk about Robbin's friend Elliot Randall who he introduced to me and I will be interviewing him soon. This is another great interview with Robbin, so I hope you enjoy and either join my facebook clubs or join the podcast club that your listening to now, and leave me some comments, good or not so good. http://www.facebook.com/AnthonyBozza If you would like to reach Robbin you can find him on facebook at:

I continue to be lucky enough to keep this series of Robbin Thompson rolling. Since our last interview we are now talking about post "Steel Mill" that included Bruce Springsteen and Steven Van Sandt. Robbin had a lot of time to kinda "re-invent" himself as well as FINALLY finishing college at VCU in Richmond, VA and I am sure his Father was most proud of him for that. We talked about were Robbin's career was headed, his first solo album, the Basset album and the huge album, "Two B's Please." Tons of stories and another great interview that your just going to have to listen to yourself!! All information and to purchase CD's are on: http://www.RobbinThompson.com The site also has a ton of great information, pictures, etc, but not as much as I will get out of Robbin on my LIVE interviews!! More chapters on Robbin in the not so distant future. Thank all of you for tuning in LIVE when the interview was taken place. This is a fantastic first segment of four interviews that I am privileged to acquire this series about Virginia's own, Robbin Thompson. We start from Robbin's childhood and his SEARS "Silvertone" guitar and amp, which is such a story for artists coming up in the '60's. I hear this story all the time, and I love it. We cover Robbin's "hippie" year's and participation in "Steel Mill" which included Bruce Springsteen and (Little Stevie) Steven Van Zandt, you know, "Silvio" on the Sopranos. He is a musician FIRST, and just landed that role on the Sopranos, and played it perfectly with that puss he can put on his face. Gotta love Silvio. This first interview will get you very interested on Mr. Robbin Thompson and make you wait for our next interview in the not so distant future. The tag song a the end of the podcast was a song that I requested and got permission from Robbin. "Train Song" and it's written by Bruce Springsteen, recorded performed by Robbin and his crew off the album, "One Step Ahead Of The Blues." This album is available from Robbin's site as mentioned below. ~DJ_Boz~ John Easdale (of DRAMARAMA) LIVE interview 05.19.09 by AnthonyBozza.comOctober 30, 2009 04:02 PM PDT
A nice interview with frontman, John Easdale of DRAMARAMA. I caught John right before their House of Blues gig in Dallas, and Sam Houston Race Park. Lot's of interesting topics we discussed and a lot of loyal fans were up for this one. I tagged the song "Physical Poetry" off of DRAMARAMA's latest album, "Everybody Dies" at the end of the podcast. To check out DRAMARAMA on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/dramaramamusic For facebook: I hope you enjoy!! ~DJ_Boz~ Mark "Mr. E Boy" Englert (of DRAMARAMA) LIVE interview 03.16.09 by AnthonyBozza.comOctober 27, 2009 05:40 PM PDT
Yep, it's that Mark "Mr. E" Englert, lead guitarist for Dramarama, whose chops can be heard on such radio favorites as Anything, Anything, Work for Food and Last Cigarette as well as the latest Everybody Dies. You've seen him on VH1's Bands Reunited. He's played on Late Night with David Letterman, The Dennis Miller Show , MTV's Alternative Nation & 120 Minutes as well as two live performances on the now legendary The Joe Franklin Show. In 1992, the LA Music Awards voted Dramarama Best Modern Rock Band as well as their record, Vinyl Album of The Year. Among the many champion luminaries of rock and roll Mr. E has worked with include: Grammy Award winning producer Val Grey (Linda Rondstat and Eagles producer) Don Smith (Tom Petty, Rolling Stones), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty) and Mick Taylor (one time guitarist for the Rolling Stones), Clem Burke (Blondie) and Sylvain, Sylvain (New York Dolls). In the world of movie magic, Mr. E's guitar can be heard in Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Higher Learning, Mayor of the Sunset Strip and The Ellen Degeneres Show. When not playing live, Mark "Mr. E" Englert is in the studio producting songwriters and writing soundtracks for various websodes and short films. Check his work on webisode Leonard Who, the end music of the health insurnace farce of Code Blue the diabolical interlude music of Weekend at Black Rock the political leanings of Another Dub or the over the top development of Total Exposure. He's ready to take on the challenge of a new project. Feel free to hit him up whether it's song production, soundtrack composition or heck, wherever your muse takes you. You can purchase Mark's music at CD baby: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/englert ~DJ_Boz~ Pete Wood (of DRAMARAMA) LIVE interview 08.31.09 by AnthonyBozza.comOctober 29, 2009 06:18 AM PDT
A great interview with Peter (Pete) Wood guitarist of DRAMARAMA. This has to rank up with one of the most fun interview to date. Pete, is a TRUE New Jerseyite. He talks fast, he is witty, sharp and funny at the same time. He is originally from Wayne, NJ and is an original member of DRAMARAMA. He doesn't take the "lead" role in the band but still can play a mean lead when he needs to. He STILL plays his original Fender Telecaster that he recorded on Cinema Verite back in the mid 80's. I love when somebody is so connected to their instrument and play it on a consistent basis but STILL has an arsenal of other guitars and gear when needed. Pete fly's out to the West coast for DRAMARAMA's gigs out there and is ready for the band when John Easedale and the boys fly East for the East coast shows. Lot's of great and interesting stuff on this interview that your just going to have to listen to find out. Pete's pick for the tag song on the end of the interview is "Senseless Fun" from the Hi Fi - Sci Fi Album which is a masterpiece. Become Pete's friend (if he approves you) on facebook at: I hope you enjoy. ~DJ_Boz~ Mike Davis (of DRAMRAMA & Halford) LIVE interview 08.10.09 by AnthonyBozza.comOctober 31, 2009 12:07 PM PDT
A great interview with bassist Mike Davis of DRAMARAMA & Halford. Mike is a cool dude. What can I say, he has been playing bass with John Easdale and DRAMARAMA since about 1998. He is also the bassist for the Heavy Metal band spin off, "Halford." Which is Rob Halford's solo band when he is not working and touring with his main mega band, Judas Priest. We speak mostly about Mike and DRAMARAMA, but Mike is also a sous chef, so we talk about food as well. Both Mike and myself are foodies so it's kinda cool. You've gotta listen to this one and Mike's pick for the tag end song of the pod is DRAMARAMA's "Classic Rot" off of the "Vinyl" album. To reach Mike on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/bassdude99 To reach Mike on facebook: I hope you enjoy! ~DJ_Boz~ Cosmo Topper LIVE interview 09.07.09 by AnthonyBozza.comNovember 07, 2009 10:41 AM PST
An "off the cuff" interview with Cosmo Topper. We speak about Dave Davies, DRAMARAMA, & Chris Carter. This in a very interesting interview with cool vibrations. I tagged, Coz's "Better Be Real," and "Summercamp" from one of Cosmo's first bands, "Bugs Tomorrow" a New Wave band in 1980. You will enjoy this one and enjoy the music as well. Cosmo Topper is DRAMARAMA's West Coast Secret Weapon Pianist and Friend. Look for more Cosmo in the not so distant future. You can reach Cosmo at the following sites: facebook: http://tinyurl.com/yczj4yt myspace: http://www.myspace.com/cosmotopper & http://www.myspace.com/mogleyb I hope you enjoy!! ~DJ_Boz~ Next Page |
